SKIN CLASSIC FAQ’S

Is Skin Classic painful?

  • There is some minor discomfort associated with the Skin Classic treatment; on a scale of 1-10, most patients report the treatment at a 3-5 depending on the area treated and irregularity.

Is there any downtime?

  • After a Skin Classic treatment, you may experience some redness, swelling, and some scabbing may form on treated areas. When the Skin Classic probe comes into contact with the epidermis, it will leave a little ding. After the treatment, the irregularity will produce an epidermal crust that looks like a scab-like crust over the treated area. This will fall off on its own within 5-14 days depending on which irregularity is treated.

How long does it take for skin classic to heal?

  • Several days after treatment, mild redness and a “crust” or small scab will form over the treated spot due to the desiccation. Depending on which irregularity is treated, it may take 5-14 days to fall off and 30 days to heal completely. After the crust/scab sloughs off, the skin may look pinkish or brownish for up to 6-8 weeks as the new skin goes through the complete healing cycle and re-melanizes. After treatment you will be sent home with aftercare instructions. Moisturizer and antibiotic ointment can be used to speed healing, and concealer can be used after 24 hours. The Skin Classic treatment is a process and since it’s non-invasive, it will take time for the results to fully develop.
It is important to understand that we do not diagnose your irregularities. We strongly advise you to have your doctor examine any spot that is questionable and confirm what type of irregularity it is. We will not treat moles, melasma , any irregularity with blood supply or lesions that we feel are not safe to do so.
We recommend to book a free consultation where we will identify what we can successfully treat for you! Then your appointment will be scheduled. A follow up appointment 4-6 weeks later is required as well, where any irregularities that need a second treatment will be addressed. Specific aftercare will be discussed during your consultation, but generally a mild cleanser twice a day followed by SPF is recommended.

Who can be treated with the Skin Classic?

  • The Skin Classic is a radio frequency device that can be safely used on all skin types and tones. It is not recommended for individuals who have a compromised immune system or who have difficulty healing.

What are the contraindications for Skin Classic?

  • Contraindications for Skin Classic include: Current or recent use of Accutane, keloid scars, eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis and other chronic conditions, pacemaker, pregnancy, malignant skin tumors, open lesions, lupus, active herpes infection, sunburn, and history of actinic or solar keratosis.

What will my skin look like post treatment?

  • The area treated may appear eurythmic (red) with some inflammation. The redness should reduce within a few hours. The lighter the skin tone, the longer it may take for the redness to subside. There may be some scabbing depending on the irregularity and the area of the body being treated.

What is aftercare after Skin Classic?

  • Following the procedure, it is recommended that you use a gentle cleanser twice a day, in addition to moisturizer and sunblock for positive healing. When cleansing the face or showering use mild products without alcohol and pat dry instead of rubbing to prevent removal of crust. Avoid excessively hot water during bathing, including hot tubs and saunas. No harsh products should be used until the skin is smooth and free of redness, clients will develop a crust, reddened area or even a furrow like track within 24-36 hours. Complete healing may take 30 days or longer. Concealer/makeup that is applied with a clean applicator can be applied to the affected area 24 hours post-treatment. Please contact the spa with any questions or concerns following your treatment.
AVOID: For at least 14 days post treatment, do NOT use any Hydroxy Acid, Retinol (Vitamin A), Vitamin C (in a low pH formula) or anything perceived as 'active' skincare. Avoid excessive UV exposure sunbeds and tanning creams for 14 days post-treatment.

How long is a treatment?

  • A Skin Classic treatment can be for a single blemish, a 15 minute or a 30-minute session.

Can I wear makeup during healing process?

  • Yes, you can wear makeup but be very careful to not prematurely remove the crust/scab while cleansing the skin.

What happens if the treated skin irregularity is still present 30 days later?

  • Some areas may need more than one treatment.

Why can’t you treat my broken capillaries on my legs?

  • Lower extremities are not recommended for treatment using the Skin Classic. Saline injections and laser therapy are the recommended treatment for these areas.

What do I do if it's taking longer than expected to heal?

  • Be patient continue to use the recommended aftercare. Don't pick or touch the treated area and allow the scab to fall off naturally. It's nature's Band-Aid!

Is it safe to treat pigmented lesions/age spots?

  • We strongly encourage you have your doctor examine any spot that is questionable or suspicious. We will not treat any lesion that we feel is not safe to do so.
